How Can severe Constipation be Treated?

Yesterday morning I was stuck in traffic and really needed to use the restroom after having had 2 large cups of coffee. When I got home and got to the restroom, it felt like not only did I need to urinate quite badly but also had an increasing feeling of pressure and cramping as if I was constipated. Had success with both endeavors but the cramps have not gone away. They are minor for the most part all the time but when I do urinate or have a bowel movement, the pain is incredibly intense. Seems to be concentrated mostly around my buttocks/anus and pelvic areas. I am 49 and not menstruating and not constipated. This began seemingly out of the blue, literally just on my way home from dropping my kids off at school. I started drinking cranberry juice thinking maybe a UTI but this doesn t quite feel like that and I don t have an increased urge to urinate, just a very full feeling belly and these pressure cramps and then the pain of using the restroom in either form. Have not had sex any time recently and no other trauma in the region. I take meloxicam and lyrics daily along with a probiotic. Any ideas?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As a first line management you can take laxatives like lactulose for symptomatic relief.

If symptoms persists better to consult a gastroenterologist and get evaluated.

You have to get a colonoscopy for further assessment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
